Not Feeling the Holiday Cheer?
That’s Okay.
As therapists working in Calgary, Alberta, we’ve seen it all when it comes to the holiday season. The pressure to be joyful, the stress of gift-giving, and the expectation to create perfect memories with loved ones can be overwhelming. But here’s the thing: not everyone feels that way. And you know what? That’s okay.
It’s okay to not feel happy during the holidays. It’s okay to feel stressed, anxious, or just plain meh. The holiday season can be a complex and often challenging time, and it’s normal to experience a range of emotions.
The problem is, we often feel like we’re the only ones who aren’t feeling the holiday cheer. We see everyone else smiling and laughing, and we wonder what’s wrong with us. But the truth is, many people are struggling behind the scenes. They’re dealing with loss, relationship issues, financial stress, or just plain old exhaustion.
If you’re not feeling the holiday spirit, know that you’re not alone. We’re here to tell you that it’s okay to not be okay. You don’t have to put on a fake smile or pretend to be someone you’re not. You can be real, you can be honest, and you can be you.
And if you need someone to talk to, we’re here to listen. We offer a safe and non-judgmental space to explore your thoughts and feelings. We can help you navigate the challenges of the holiday season and find ways to make it more manageable.
Some signs that you might be struggling with the holidays include:
- Feeling anxious or stressed about family gatherings
- Worrying about finances or gift-giving
- Dealing with loss or grief
- Feeling overwhelmed or exhausted
- Struggling with relationships or conflict
If any of this sounds familiar, know that you’re not alone. We’re here to support you, and we want to help you get through this.
The holiday season doesn’t have to be perfect. It can be messy, it can be chaotic, and it can be imperfect. And you know what? That’s okay. You can still find joy, still find connection, and still find meaning, even in the midst of imperfection.
So, if you’re not feeling the holiday cheer, take a deep breath and know that it’s okay. You can reach out to us, and we’ll be here to support you. We offer online therapy sessions, in-person sessions, and even phone or video calls if that’s what you need.
Don’t feel like you have to put on a brave face or pretend to be someone you’re not. Just be you, and know that you’re not alone.
